Injury and Sickness Guide
Common injuriesWounds - Wounds such as torn, cut or punctured flesh and muscle. These are very common injuries but could put the cat/wolf's life at risk if severe enough.
Treatment: Cobwebs to stop bleeding, poppy seeds to help reduce pain. Usually goldenrod, horsetail and/or marigold are often used as well to ensure the wound heals nicely and is free from infection.
Infections - can occur from wounds or cuts that have gone untreated. If an infection starts, it will take longer to cure and will be harder to heal. The wound or cut itself will likely burn and sting, causing large amounts of pain. One will not die from an infection unless it's large scale.
Treatment: Dripping the liquid from chervil leaves into the infected wound and/or rolling in wild garlic can help prevent the infection from spreading and assist in it's healing.
SprainsTreatment: These can usually be cured with a lot of rest.
Joint dislocationTreatment: These must be treated by placing the joint back into place by the healers. Daisy can also be used as a paste to help with the aches after the joint has been popped back into place.
Cracked pawpads - Elders are mostly prone to this.
Treatment: Chewing coltsfoot leaves into a pulp and then pressing the mixture into the cracks of the paw.
Broken bones - Broken bones can be tricky to heal and sometimes may not heal entirely correct. Breaks can vary from legs to something more severe such as backbone. A backbone break will often result in paralysis.
Treatment: Broom made into a fine poultice and/or Comfrey Root chewed into a poultice with Rush to help bind the injury.
Joint Aches - Joint aches can pose to be a common issue. Usually happens to elders.
Treatment: Comfrey root in the form of a poultice or daisy leaves in the form of a paste.
Loss of senses such as sight or hearing due to old age. Loss of limbs, birth defects, infections or accidents.
Treatment: Celandine and poppy seeds could potentially be used to help initially with the damaged eyes, however there is no form of treatment or cure for deafness or blindness through age related problems.
Toothache.Treatment: Giving a creature a small amount of alder bark will help to treat the infection and ease the pain. Poppy seeds could be administered here if the creature is in pain.
Bee stings - can cause swelling and pain in some creatures.
Treatment: Chewing up blackberry leaves into a fine pulp, then pressed to the spot where the bee stung should ultimately reduce the swelling of the sting. Poppy seeds could be administered here if the creature is in pain. And/or as an alternative, dandelion's white milky liquid can be dripped onto the sting and the leaves chewed as a painkiller.
Common sicknessesCave Cough - A form of chest infection that affects animals within the packs. This cough causes characters to have a sore throat, joints, a running nose and also a cough. Cave-Cough is the mildest form of cough, but if untreated, it could develop into Angry Cough which is basically a more severe form of sickness with the same symptoms but amplified.
Treatment: Catnip or chickweed, or tansy (small doses) and feverfew.
Weeping Eyes - A creature can get sore and weepy eyes from time to time. It is a common form of illness and is easily distinguished from other sicknesses.
Treatment: Celandine dripped into the sore eyes.
Nature's Weakness - (Otherwise known as diabetes to humans) is a sickness that can affect some animals. What causes this illness is unknown, but it's believed to be an internal cause, not an external one (you don't get it from others; it's not infectious and it's not spread or related to prey or eating things or anything like that). The sickness causes extreme weight loss despite an increased appetite, excessive thirst, bad breath. More extreme symptoms can be seizures, weakness, sleepiness, dullness and wobbliness.
Treatment: There is no treatment and generally the end result is not death, however it is generally loss of sight, nerve damage and weakness in hind leg region.
Black fever - (Otherwise known as rabies to humans) is a viral infection that begins with simply inflammation and fever. However, if the sickness progresses the following symptoms can develop: Violent movements, fear of water, inability to move parts of the body, confusion, and loss of consciousness. Once these symptoms appear, the result is nearly always death. The illness is transmitted through biting and transmission of Silvia.
Treatment: None. However isolation and care should be taken if a creature is suspected to have this illness. Some herbs may help to lessen or cure some symptoms (comfrey root - inflammation, feverfew for fevers, thyme for nervousness and fear), but the illness itself will remain and the chance of death is near certain.
Nature's thirst - (Otherwise known as Parvovirus to humans) is a lethal sickness that can cause a creature to demonstrate a variety of dangerous symptoms. This sickness can occur in both felines and canines but it is more predominant in canines. These symptoms include lethargy, vomiting, severe dehydration and loss of appetite. This sickness once within the body of one, can easily be transmitted. Creatures can die from this illness if they loose too much weight or become too dehydrated.
Treatment: The most important thing to do when someone is infected with this sickness is ensure that they consume a large amount of water or liquid. A tiresome task, but one that is imperative to the other's survival. Ragweed or Lambs Ear can also be administered to try and give the creature strength and energy. Sorrel also is used to build up a creature's appetite. Willow leaves will also stop the creature from vomiting.
Uncommon sicknessesWailing Fever - Basically a parasite which lives within the creatures body which got there from eating bad or rotten prey. Creatures with this illness often wail and cry out in pain. Symptoms are high fever, joint pain, weakness, blurred vision, even death. This illness is somewhat common - uncommon.
Treatment: There is a mixture of herbs required for the treatment of this sickness. Poppy seeds and Lambs ear crushed with an additional herb. The herb is a berry, much like a deathberry but not poisonous. The berry is called a Feverberry - bright red and juicy. They are extremely hard to find. Mixing the three herbs together would ultimately create the cure to this sickness.
Rare sicknessesThe Fuzzies - (Known as Dementia to humans), an illness which causes the infected animal to become forgetful, violent and angered easily. Symptoms include bleeding, muscle growth, drooling, paranoia, delusions, pain in the chest and limbs. There is no cure and it is very common in older creatures. The illness is very rare in younger creatures.
Treatment: No known cure.
