The dingo is a wild dog found in Australia. Its exact ancestry is debated, but dingoes are generally believed to be descended from semi-domesticated dogs from East or South Asia, which returned to a wild lifestyle when introduced to Australia. Both the dingo and domestic dog are classified as subspecies of Canis lupus in Mammal Species of the World.
The dingo's habitat ranges from deserts to grasslands and the edges of forests. Dingoes will normally make their dens in deserted rabbit holes and hollow logs close to an essential supply of water.A dingo has a relatively broad head, a pointed muzzle, and erect ears. Eye color varies from yellow over orange to brown. Compared to other similarly sized familiarise dogs, dingoes have longer muzzles, larger carnassials (large teeth found in many carnivorous mammals), longer canine teeth, and flatter skulls with larger nuchal lines. The average Australian dingo is 52 to 60 cm and average weight is 13 to 20 kg.

Although they are called gray wolves, these ancestors of domestic dogs actually range in color from brownish-gray to all black, to all white.
Gray wolves are the largest of all canines. At 60-90 cm (2-3 ft.) at the shoulder and 1.5 m (4.5-6.5 ft.) in length, gray wolves vary in weight from 25-60 kg (55-130 lb.). Their diet consists of ungulates (large hoofed mammals) such as elk, deer, moose, and caribou, as well as smaller mammals like beavers and rabbits.
The Arctic wolf is a subspecies of the gray wolf. Arctic wolves inhabit some of the most inhospitable terrain in the world where the air temperature rarely rises above -30 degrees C (-22 F) and the ground is permanently frozen. They are one of the few species of mammals who can tolerate these harsh conditions. Arctic wolves are usually smaller than gray wolves, and also have smaller ears, slightly shorter muzzles, and shorter legs to reduce exposure to the frigid air. They live alone or in packs of about 6 wolves and are usually all white with a very thick, insulating coat.
The African wild dog, also called Cape hunting dog or painted dog, typically roams the open plains and sparse woodlands of sub-Saharan Africa.
These long-legged canines have only four toes per foot, unlike other dogs, which have five toes on their forefeet. The dog's Latin name means "painted wolf," referring to the animal's irregular, mottled coat, which features patches of red, black, brown, white, and yellow fur. Each animal has its own unique coat pattern, and all have big, rounded ears. They stand at 30 inches at the shoulder.

As the cliché goes, dire wolves weren’t fat—just big-boned. Despite being about the same length as the gray wolf, dirus exceeded its modern cousin in weight by roughly 25 percent, which means members of the extinct species weighed somewhere between 125 and 175 pounds. Dire wolf bones were broader overall and connected to large, enviable muscles. On the downside, the stocky C. dirus probably wasn't super-speedy, as evidenced by its proportionately shorter legs. The Iberian wolf is a subspecies of gray wolf that inhabits the forest and plains of northern Portugal and northwestern Spain. The Iberian wolf differs from the more common Eurasian wolf with its slighter frame, white marks on the upper lips, the dark marks on the tail and a pair of dark marks in its front legs that give it its subspecies name, signatus ("marked"). Males can weigh up to 50 kilograms, with females usually weighing between 30 and 40 kg.
Dogs were probably the first tame animals. They have accompanied humans for some 10,000 years. Some scientists assert that all dogs, domestic and wild, share a common ancestor in the small South Asian wolf. Dogs communicate in several ways. Scent is one method, another is physical appearance. Body position, movement, and facial expression often convey a strong message. Many of these signals are recognizable even to humans, such as the excited tail-wagging of a happy dog or the bared teeth of an angry or threatened animal. Vocally, dogs communicate with a cacophony of sounds including barks, growls, and whines. Sizes and appearence varies from breed to breed.
Tundra wolves are among the largest of grey wolf subspecies. Tundra Wolves can attain a body length of 2 metres (7 feet) and usually an average weight of 45 – 57 kilograms (100 – 125 pounds), though there are some unconfirmed reports of animals reaching weights of 100 kilograms (220 pounds). Males are usually larger than females. Most tundra wolves have a grey colour, with mixes of black, rust and silver grey. Like most canids, Tundra wolves have a high body, long legs, broad skull tapering to a narrow muzzle. Their tail is bushy and their coat has a thick, dense underfur.

The Maned Wolfs fur is reddish brown on the sides, with long black legs and a distinctive black mane. The coat is further marked with whitish tufts at the tip of the tail and a white ‘bib’ beneath the throat. Their mane is able to stand upright and is typically used to enlarge the wolfs profile when threatened or when displaying aggression.

The Mexican Wolf is the rarest, most genetically distinct subspecies of the Grey Wolf in North America. The Mexican Wolf is also one of the smallest subspecies of North American grey wolves, reaching an overall length no greater than 135 centimetres whose maximum height is about 80 centimetres. The Mexican Wolf weight ranges from 27 – 45 kilograms. The Mexican Wolves have long legs and a sleek body which enables them to run very fast. The modeled grey appearance of the Mexican Wolf is excellent as a camouflage in the forested areas. The Mexican Wolf has a superior sense of smell.
The red wolf is a smaller and a more slender cousin of the gray wolf. It is gray-black, with a reddish cast that gives it the color for which it is named. The red wolf is one of the world's rarest canids. The coat is a cinnamon or tawny red with grey and black touches, the back tends to be dark and the tail has a black tip. Red wolves are smaller than their relative, the grey wolf, and have longer legs and shorter fur. Males are typically larger than females. Head-body length is around 95 - 120 cm.
The size of the Tibetan wolves can vary from 58 to 65 inches (from nose to end of tail) and from 27 to 30 inches high, weighing from 65 to 70 pounds. Compared to the common European wolf, they are slightly larger, with shorter legs. Their skull is similar with a longer thinner muzzle. This "wooly wolf" has a long shaggy coat which seasonally varies in color, usually a blend of white, yellow, brown, grey, and black.
